A rather fabulous young creative friend of mine has been tackling this issue head on.

Her words below - have a read then sit back and learn. Episodes 1 & 2 below with more to come.
Big love to Nina Danjuma @ninadnj

I've been working on a video series called "The Real Man". Ads are as equally unrepresentative for men as they are for women.

The difference is, men don’t feel as compelled to speak out, because traditionally that’s not what ‘men’ do. It is especially difficult for men of colour.

The highest suicide rate in the UK was for men aged 40-44. The highest suicide rate in the Republic of Ireland was for men aged 25-34. Male rates remain consistently higher than female suicide rates across the UK and Republic of Ireland. - Samaritans.org

It’s time to change the rhetoric and address how the media has been perpetuating the ‘be a man’ narrative for far too long. The media are also reinforcing a trope that doesn’t allow room for emotion, open conversation, and vulnerability in men, so… I sat down with eight men of colour to discuss what it really means to ‘be a man’.

A conversation to start the conversation, to depict the intersectionality of men. It explores individual definitions of what being a man means and how it evolves and changes as experiences do. Social change. Giving men the voice and confidence to reshape masculinity.

The will be eight releases, two of which are already out!

I'll be releasing the following episodes every Friday (I have seven to go).
Please watch and share it wherever you can, I'm @ninadnj on both Instagram and Twitter
