ABOUT
A series of conceptual art pieces that represent the pains of mental health in the contorted and monstrous forms of a set of 27 gremlins. All these creatures are designed to challenge and incite the viewer into reflecting on what they see before them, they may horrify the viewer, or encourage understanding or empathy. In either state of reflection these creatures are not meant to be 'easy' to behold because facing and tackling mental pain is difficult. Each gremlin is designed to show the angst, pain and frustrations of various types of inner turmoil, and what this turmoil may manifest into, each individual may have differing emotional responses than another; but this is the goal of these monsters, they are designed to elicit a response from their viewer. These characters were all hand drawn in pencil and ink on paper and then brought to digital for cleaning the edges.
Purposely left undefined and lacking in separate titles, almost like a Rorschach Test, the creatures are designed to ignite thought, emotion and understanding of inner pains in order to not be afraid of releasing the frustrations we hold inside. Only through acceptance of their existence can we then begin to tackle our mental health monsters; we need to face them, it is the first step towards conquering them.
