Barton Willmore Bristol, Reading & London

ABOUT

Barton Willmore’s Graphic Communication team were responsible for redesigning the Scottish Royal Town Planning Institute’s quarterly magazine, Scottish Planner. In addition to revamping the editorial layout, font and colour palette, this quarterly magazine has given the team creative license to produce a range of bespoke handcrafted covers, complementing its strong visual identity.

Using 100% recycled offset paper is an important finish to the magazine. Not only does it convey the ethics of RTPI Scotland, but its natural white offset brings the handcrafted elements of the design to life. Specifically choosing Seacourt printers for its radical approach to protecting the environment and their four-colour process by WATERLESS, emphasises the sustainable ethics of this magazine.

FEEDBACK

Feedback consistently confirms that Scottish Planner, RTPI Scotland’s quarterly journal, is highly valued by our members. Barton Wilmore’s 2014 redesign of the journal format and design has however played a critical role in broadening the journal’s reach, and it is now one of RTPI Scotland’s most important tools for engaging non-planners with what are often technical policy issues. The policy world is crowded, and so the eye-catching design that Barton Wilmore has created is essential to winning our key audiences’ attention and delivering our message effectively. The team at Barton Wilmore consistently create great visuals that communicate a specific planning perspective on big policy ideas – from Scottish heritage, through demographic change, to infrastructure planning - in a fun and accessible way. Scottish Planner is the foremost planning journal in Scotland, and is distributed quarterly to all 2100 RTPI Members in Scotland as well to over 300 national bodies, media organisations, MSPs and local authorities
