ABOUT

How can we deal with COVID-19? This was a question that posed –and is still posing– a serious challenge for the whole world. Especially in the initial stages of this new paradigm, people were confused and were looking for credible sources among the vast ocean of misinformation.

The United Nations’ global call out to creatives, announced in March 2020, aimed to encourage the creation and dissemination of projects that delivered messages about the pandemic in more intriguing ways. Using two kids and their pets as its main characters, this series of illustrations, which highlighted what we could do about the ongoing struggle against coronavirus in a 'playful' way, was my submission to the open call.

Using vector graphics, these educative illustrations relied on storytelling and puns to relay messages about personal hygiene, physical distancing, knowing the symptoms, myth-busting, spreading kindness and employing solidarity. With a contemporary, pastel color palette, the drawings appealed to both children and adults, maintaining a sense of humour without ignoring the seriousness of the matter at hand.

Following the open call, three of my illustrations were featured on the project website. Since this project was a collaboration between the UN and Talenthouse, the featured illustrations were shared with the audience of both organizations. Being acknowledged by Talenthouse (90,1K followers on Instagram), was particularly noteworthy in terms of reaching out to a global creative community.
