Digital Stamp Archive

The Digital Stamp Archive project involved creating a digital repository of postage stamps to preserve cultural heritage and make it accessible for future generations. Through researching my own stamp collection and historical sources, I found that stamps reflect a country’s artistic, cultural, and political identity. Older stamps often feature detailed engravings, ornate borders, symmetry, and serif typography, while modern designs favour simpler shapes and sans-serif type.

I analysed the composition, hierarchy, colour, and typography of a wide range of stamps, using these insights to inform my design decisions. I chose to recreate the stamps digitally in Procreate, experimenting with brushes and textures to capture the intricate engraved style while working efficiently.

I also designed a Figma-based archive website inspired by the structure of a stamp sheet. Using a clear grid system, serif headings, and sans-serif body text, I created an interface that balances heritage with modern usability and makes the archive easy to navigate.

Throughout the project, I treated each stamp as a cultural artefact, ensuring its historical context was preserved. The archive demonstrates how digital design can safeguard visual heritage and make it accessible to wider audiences, connecting past and present through an engaging digital experience.
