SELF DIRECTED BRIEF.
I wanted to document and present my 10 month journey around the world through photography and literature in a simple yet creative way that relates to backpacking. After looking through the content and playing around with some layouts it was clear that the photography should do most of the talking. I decided to position the majority of the photos on their own page and have the text separately on the neighbouring page so the pictures stood out well and the text remained easily legible. I made use of text on block colours to create balance with the photographic pages, highlight certain statements and give a coherent structure throughout the journal. When it came to the cover I wanted a quirky approach that reflected backpacking so I used a detail of the bag I travelled with and creatively incorporated it in the design of the journal.
