ABOUT
This collection is based around a flower shaped perfume holder that I had the pleasure of seeing during a visit to Holyrood Palace where the Splendours of the Subcontinent, A Prince's Tour of India 1875-6 exhibition was being shown. After finding out that the perfume holder was made in the city of Madras that dictated the use of Madras checks in my patterns. I wanted to combine the East/West fusion into my garment silhouettes to acknowledge the India and Great Britain relationship highlighted in the exhibition. I looked to street style and therefore chose to focus on trench coats and combine the shape/detail of them with the silhouette of the Indian skirt - lehenga. The prints were inspired by Madras checks, floral shapes from the perfume holder and various pieces from the exhibition.
