About me
Having studied a technical based degree subject I am familiar with your JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3' and the likes, but ideally I wanted to find a way within my degree to express my creative flair. It was in my final year that I opted to take part in the Advanced HCI module which I enjoyed thoroughly and made the decision then and there that that's what I wanted to pursue as a career. As team leader in that module I had a vision which I had to communicate to my team members. We went on to achieve the best project that year and a £250 prize sponsored by ASDA to boot. The project was very rigorous and required a lot of the skills mentioned in the Job Description. First of all, I was in charge of designing interactive wire-frames using Axure to show how several elements of the app was going to work as well as pitch perfect designs using Photoshop and Illustrator that showed how the final product is intended to look , to aid the developers. I also made use of paper prototypes as a rapid prototyping tool to demonstrate key elements to the team.
All in all the whole process improved my communication skills and presentation skills, opened my eyes to some UI principals and the user-centric nature of such a design process which was ultimately fascinating. The process also allowed me to put my organisational skills to the test. After University I had to formulate a portfolio of my work to show my skills. Here's where I began learning how to use several programs such as Balsamiq and InDesign. I am also currently learning how to use a plethora of the wireframing and prototyping tools to allow me to be a versatile designer. My willingness to learn went beyond the practical, I learned and I'm currently putting to practice many of the key procedures that make up the field of UX such as personas, user flows, user journeys and so forth. To build up my portfolio and to broaden my horizon, I have been designing apps and experiences that I feel would make my life and that of many people aroundd the world that little bit easier were they available.
To conclude, I feel that UX is a field that once applied effectively it is such that can be a determinant in what product/experience a customer/user chooses to invest in. This power motivates me and is a something that pushes me to pioneer this field and make it my own as I progress as a UI/UX designer. I am very keen to learn all that I can about the tremendously interesting field.
