ABOUT

Concept:

LGBT+Me is a book aimed at 8-13 years olds, combining a story told through a comic with educational zine pages. My employer wanted to create a publication for this age group to gently introduce them to the concept of different identities they may learn about. My role was the sole illustrator for the book.

Execution:

I designed the characters based off a story idea and developed these alongside a script. Once the script was complete I did a storyboard/thumbnails for how the comic would be structured, and what information would be included on the zine pages. I then completed all of the illustrated pages for the book and added text, designed the front and back cover and proofread it. I also designed a sheet of stickers to accompany the book, showing various characters and themes from the story.

Results:

The book was printed and is currently being distributed for free online and to local schools and organisations. It will also be made available to read digitally online soon. It has had a positive response from all who have read it and given feedback.
