ABOUT
This editorial for Harper’s Bazaar was a deeply meaningful project, featuring three friends, Ryan, Isla, and Valerie, as models. Ryan has Treacher Collins syndrome, a condition rarely seen in advertising or mainstream media. Typically, children with Treacher Collins are shown only through illustrations or photos that focus on what’s “wrong,” rather than portraying them as whole, complex humans. This project was an opportunity to change that narrative.
Photographed in London, I took full creative control over the styling and storyboard, working closely with the children to ensure they could be completely themselves. This collaborative approach was liberating for all of us and allowed their authentic personalities to shine through every image.
Being able to create these images for such a major publication was incredible, not only to promote diversity and inclusion but also to advance my ongoing mission of building a more inclusive and equitable society. This editorial is a powerful reminder that representation matters, and that everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in media as human, beautiful, and whole.
Conceptually, the shoot centered on authenticity, friendship, and breaking down stereotypes. In execution, it embraced natural moments and genuine connection, allowing each child’s story to be told on their own terms. The result is a groundbreaking editorial that challenges norms and celebrates the beauty of difference.
