ABOUT
Jina Mahsa Amini was killed by the Iranian morality police for allegedly wearing her hijab too loosely. This triggered nationwide protests in which women in Iran fought for their rights. Since then, Iranians have taken to the streets to protest the regime's oppression.
To support them in their struggle, activist group THE VOICE OF WOMEN organized a demonstration. Thousands took part, and many donated their white hijabs that were collected and spray-painted in the colors of the Iranian regime's flag.
Why? To bring the issue to the centre of global attention: the World Cup in Qatar, where political protests were strictly forbidden. The veils were then given away to unknowing fans as trojan flags to be smuggled into Qatar's stadiums and waved.
Shortly after, the stories of the women who once wore them were published on unveiltheflags/org as well as on social media channels, encouraging hundreds of women to join the protest and post their own stories.
