ABOUT
From June to August 2024, impressive sculptures by two of Britain's leading female artists were on display in three locations around Shrewsbury's town centre as part of the fourth Shrewsbury Arts Trail.
Memento Mori, by Halimah Cassell, a pair of solid cast iron sculptures that glow in the sunlight and cast magnificent shadows throughout the day, was installed at Shrewsbury Castle.
St Mary's Church housed Cassell's second work on the sculpture trail, Hurricane, an imposing piece in hand-carved fibreglass and jesmonite.
Redhead Sunset Stack, by Almuth Tebbenhoff, was displayed in The Dingle in Quarry Park. The impressive angular modern art installation rose over the waters of Dingle Pond.
Tebbenhoff's piece caused considerable controversy during the festival, with many objections raised regarding its placement in the park. The deliberately misaligned design of the festival posters was a response to this backlash.
