ABOUT
As the managing designer of the English Language Teaching (ELT) course title which had both print and digital components for the students and teachers, the first and most important at that time was the printed Students book in colour.
As was often the case, editorial would always choose the external design studio's template over my own but creative opportunities would always come, mostly in two ways:
• Artwork commissioning which when the results were good were very satisfying in that you feel that you've achieved something on the human level and teased something good out of the illustrator
• Realia is much more a hands-on doing it your self for the most part and quite often some of the external studios didn't deliver very well in this department. With editorial not happy I (my colleagues had the same with their courses) I was happy to step in and do it myself.
