ABOUT

Challenge
For most kids, their bedroom is the only personal space at home. However, too often these rooms end up being decorated by what parents think their children want. But actually, involving the child in the decisions around how they decorate their bedroom can be an important part of growing up. It gives them their own space, a place to begin to work out exactly who they are.

We were tasked to help parents create a bedroom with and for their children that fires their imagination.

Solution
We created the Kids' Rooms decorating tool - an interactive experience that helps parents involve their kids in choosing how they decorate their rooms.

Using the already inspirational Dulux website the tool pulls relevant content and filters it in a fun way for kids.

Activity
Designed in a child like, fun way, three simple questions need to be answered and the tool will suggest a style that's perfect for them and their room. The rooms include space, jungle, circus, storybook, sports and superhero themes.

The tool then tells the user how to recreate the room by a written step-by-step guide and ‘how to’ films. Here the user is also advised on the difficulty, time it will take, bedroom accessories, paint and tool list required.

The paint and tool list have clickable links to DuluxUK ecommerce page, where the user can purchase and get these items delivered.

Through Dulux's social channels the tool is promoted at key decorating periods, such as Bank Holidays. Using content around the room sets available, parents are directed to the tool and encouraged to use it with their kids.

Result
The tool launched in May 2016 and it has already received near 1000 kids bedrooms project images. We'll be continuing the activity over the summer using UGC to inspire more families to decorate their kids bedrooms.
