ABOUT

Flaming June is a boutique florist based in Derby which delivers a beautiful range of flowers. I was asked to design some postcards for them to send out with the order or just to keep on their counter. The name of the company is inspired by the famous painting by Sir Frederic Leighton, produced in 1895 in the Victorian Era. The painting portrays a young woman drugged into sleep by the simmering heat of midsummer. The woman's body, bathed in sunshine, offer little clue to who she is or what she is dreaming about, except an oleander blossoming over her head. Though this is a seductive flower, it is also highly poisonous.
The black leafs I created in the illustration resemble this deadly, femme fatale, poisonous mistery in the painting. The flower illustration have remained seductive and playful.
