ABOUT

This was a personal photography project. Having photographed my wife's uncle (Lancashire Fusiliers Veteran) in April 2015 I set about location WWII veterans to create their portrait and capture their stories. I approach my local gallery early 2016 with a proposal for an exhibition of the work sometime in 2017. At the same time I made contact with Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery and again submitted a proposal for an exhibition.

After a slow start I made contact with the Stockport Normandy Veterans association ( NVA) , local veterans in my community after a press release in my local paper and then the Royal British Legion Liverpool branch.

From April 2015 to October 2017 I travelled extensively across the North West as well as 2 trips to Normandy to meet ,photograph and interview veterans. Along the way I made lasting friendships and heard incredible stories, of ordinary people living extra ordinary lives.

A collection of portraits was exhibited in Liverpool Anglican Cathedral over Remembrance weekend in 2016 and a larger exhibition of portraits opened in my local art gallery, the Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery, for 4 weeks in May - June 2017. In September 2017 the project came to the attention the Royal British Legion North West who kindly supported my with additional PR to promote the main exhibition at Stockport War Memorial Art Gallery from 28/10/17 - 18/11/17. The exhibition was highlighted by BBC North west and That's Lancashire TV. This attracted people form across the North west and we had in the region of 1600 visitors to the exhibition.

I continue to meet and photograph veterans and add to this body of work.
