Lost or abandoned fishing gear account for up to 30% of the plastic in the sea. These “ghost nets” cause severe damage to marine life. For years, the WWF committed itself to extensive manual search. How much more would be possible if the search scaled the impact from local action to global collaboration. A custom-built AI learned to detect ghost nets from sonar data. Findings are published via platform/App, collaborators around the world can take action. Therefore, App and Platform had to be easy to use and enjoyable, transforming the data into a playful experience that initiates interaction.
