Matter of Fat is an ongoing personal project of mine made in documentary style using archive footage of myself along with voiceover and filmed segments also of myself. I wanted to document my journey through weight loss and this was my approach to do so. At the point of starting the project I had never done anything like this and was interested to see if I could.

For the filmed parts I mostly used my phone camera and a Canon XF100 with either a mounted rode mic or Lav mic. For the voice over I used a rudimentary set up consisting of a USB microphone and read from a script written by myself. I also used old home video footage of myself which I digitised. The editing process went very smoothly as I meticulously plan my projects and good organisation meant the final assembly of footage was very straight forward.

I am happy with the results so far and I'm proud of how the footage has come together. I like the mixture of archive footage to filmed parts and feel it gives a very genuine look into my journey so far. I learned a lot about shooting on the go, non-fiction script writing and assembling different types of footage to make a coherent and compelling story.
