ABOUT
I created a series of illustrations inspired by the beautiful scenery and lifestyle of Japan. I created these works in the illustration program Clip Studio, my choice of colours were heavily influenced by Neo Tokyo Art. I wanted to communicate Japan’s advanced technology, traditional landscapes, and its Kawaii culture in each illustration. In my Tokyo Wander, I replaced the road from my reference photo with a river as I felt adding water incorporated a sense of whimsy. The original inspiration for the cat Onsen was based on a Gasshou in Hakone, just outside of Tokyo. The home had a large pond and stream running through the back garden. Unfortunately, I was unable to experience a Onsen on my Journey, so I created one using the stream as inspiration. Japanese macaques are famous for enjoying the hot springs in Nagano and I thought drawing cats instead would add a touch of humour.
