As one of the South West’s leading colleges, Petroc drives forward educational success in further and higher education and raises the aspirations, knowledge and skills of individuals, communities and businesses in Devon and beyond.

As a freelancer I pitched in with a proposal to create and design the college’s 2016/17
prospectus. A school or college prospectus needs to be unique, emphasising the school’s/college’s values and making it stand out from the crowd. Everything has to work together, to make a convincing case that your educational establishment is the right one. It all comes down to the design and the copy. With a brief and support from the marketing department a proposal was put together including 3 designs, 1 of which was agreed and project began. I wanted to make this prospectus fun, lively, colourful and engaging in its design creation. I introduced blocks of colours with coloured directional arrow shapes to link text to images, and also to guide the viewer through the prospectus. Images were supplied but some infographics, diagrams and site maps were needed.

The 2017-2018 prospectus was similar in principle - a square shape, interesting use of colours and shapes - gone were the arrow shapes and these were replaced by random stylised rhombus and triangle shapes. Prospectus’ need to be given a fresh look and emphasis every year so as not to look stagnant and tired, but filled with new vitality.
