ABOUT
CONCEPT
21st Century Man is a portrait project created for ORATIO with American photographer Scott Schuman, founder of The Sartorialist. Photographed on the streets of Milan, the series explores a contemporary idea of masculinity through artists, designers, entrepreneurs and cultural figures of different generations — spontaneous, self-assured and individual rather than defined by a single professional or generational code.
EXECUTION
As Creative Director & Chief Product Officer of ORATIO, I conceived and directed the creative-product framework behind the project. Every ORATIO garment worn throughout the portrait series was designed by me, with product development, fittings, construction, industrialisation and production carried through under my responsibility as Chief Product Officer.
The wardrobe moves across tailoring, knitwear, shirts, coats and reversible leather outerwear, combining sartorial tradition with a contemporary approach to proportion, material and ease. Scott Schuman translated this product language into a series of individual portraits, bringing the ORATIO wardrobe into the everyday cultural landscape of Milan.
RESULT
The project became an editorial portrait of the ORATIO man: personal rather than prescriptive, sophisticated without stiffness, and grounded in product, material and character. 21st Century Man was featured by ICON Magazine in January 2024 in “Lo stile maschile secondo Oratio e The Sartorialist”, documenting the collaboration and the collection behind the portraits.
