ABOUT
My collection is all about the corruption of innocence. I’ve taken inspiration from my Colombian heritage to celebrate the diversity of my heritage which has undoubtedly been affected by Colombia’s woeful history. Our national identity is tainted by drugs and corruption but we forget that behind this notorious reputation there was once a sense of innocence, beauty and freedom.
White Wedding dresses, soft petticoats and corsets all hold connotations of innocence so I wanted to create the illusion of lace to show purity and innocence but to juxtapose this with my pill design showing that it has become tainted and corrupt.
With such stark juxtapositions as inspiration, it seems only fitting that the textiles reflect the battle between the contrasting elements. The Coffee sacking is rough and natural and contrast in both colour and texture with soft silks and organic cottons.
As a new designer of the future I know how important it is to think about sustainability. Using organic cottons and silks along with Recycled coffee sacking was a way to promote sustainability in my collection but also refer back to the beauty’s of Colombia and their coffee exportation.
I have created a research-focused fashion portfolio and developed a six outfit collection to tell a story of my national identity and celebrate my heritage but also fully express a loss of innocence. I have mixed touch points: The wedding dress, corset, crinoline, petticoat, Medellin festival dress and the Colombian drug corruption
