ABOUT
Design Studio MZ+MM 無狀無名設計事務所 is an inclusive social enterprise for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) or People of Differences (PoDs). Our design team consists of hearing and PWD, primarily hearing-impaired, with over 80% of PWD. Under the leadership of our savvy founder, Alan So, we provide graphic design and multimedia production services for commercial and non-commercial sectors.
Founded in 2020, we implement different schemes for beneficiaries (PWD) and services for our clients that complement each other and improve our added social values:
• PoDs Creative Partners scheme 多元人才創意夥伴計劃–recruit creative PWD continuously online;
• Visual Arts Hub MZ+MM 無狀無名藝舍–organise two mini-exhibitions of artists with disabilities in 2022-2023;
• Private Classroom MS 無私塾–video content inclusive platform for PWD;
• Initials_M_Z 頭名狀–provide B2C avatar creation services; &
• ESG solution provider–provide design services in social procurement for corporations that put emphasis on ESG and UN’s SDG 10 & 17.
BRAND IMAGE : :
無狀無名設計事務所 is our Chinese company name. 設計 means design. 事務所 refers to a studio. 無狀無名 is our identity. 無 means nothing and represents emptiness in a very philosophical way. 無 is pronounced as “mou” in Cantonese, 狀 as “zong” and 名 as “ming”. You will find the composition of our English name “M(ou) Z(ong) + M(ou) M(ing)” as well as the symbol “+“ is the separation between two phrases, 無狀 and 無名. 無狀 literally means shapeless while 無名 literally means anonymous. They both come from Tao Te Ching. Through our name, we hope to express our power of differences and define the future borderless constitution.

Chinese (written traditional Chinese and Cantonese-speaking) is our core communication language.
Chinese or Cantonese is the basis of Hong Kong sign language, as well as Cantonese is a must in lip-reading communication with hearing-impaired designers.
Chinese philosophy (Taoism; mainly from 道德經 Tao Te Ching/Dou De Jing) inspires our brand philosophy – be prepared and never confine yourself to a routine that you feel comfortable with.

We individually have different powers in our perception of aesthetics.
We believe in teamwork and co-creation underneath different generations or different categories of disabilities.
We can co-create powerful deliverables and more possibilities.

SUSTAINABILITY : :
Globally, environmental sustainability is the mission and vision of many institutions and corporations. In the past, the design industry was perceived as one of the environmental villains. When we enter the second decade of the 21st century, paper usage is massively reduced with the help of high-power personal computers, the speed of internet transmission, and the development of dependable cloud storage.
Design Studio MZ+MM cares about environmental sustainability. We simply need to follow the path of many established industrial practices. We will always be alert to use environment-friendly paper stocks in printing collateral whenever possible. We believe we can share a tiny effort to help sustainability.
Besides emphasising environmental sustainability, social sustainability within your geographical area of service or operation should always be addressed. Design Studio MZ+MM embraces and supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) no.10 Reduced Inequalities. Local people and local communities are our most relevant stakeholders, particularly due to our mission of fostering social inclusion. We actively play an educational role by providing information on inclusion and organising inclusive activities. Eventually, we try to help to reduce inequalities.
