IIED commissioned these two cartoons to reflect underlying concepts around sustainable or otherwise useful practices around development in East Africa. The first cartoon speaks about the use of cell phones by cattle traders in the often-bandit patrolled region of northern Kenya. The second cartoon is a satirical and metaphorical take on examples of often short sighted and naive practice in foreign aid to developing countries: the 'F1 Cow' represents certain Aid agencies' misled attempts to introduce inappropriate breeds of cattle in geographically harsh conditions where only Zebu cattle is able to thrive.
Both cartoons were drawn by hand, and later edited using Photoshop.
