A new campaign film, aimed at raising awareness of Women's Aid, released around the time of International Women's Day and the World Book Day.

Stuart Hancock was briefed to compose the narrative music score for ‘The Monster Who Came To Tea’, depicting the trauma of domestic abuse from an oft-forgotten perspective: that of a child. The challenge was to create music that sat snugly under the rhyming couplets of the narration, starting whimsically as the bedtime story begins, and descending into sinister, darker territory as the true nature of the monster is revealed in the animation. It’s an intense track that blends traditional orchestration with synth textures, and it builds to a devastating climax with the horror, before flipping into cold minimalism when we realise – in the live action conclusion – that this story is all too real. A pro bono piece of composition for the Women’s Aid charity, it was a very rewarding job for all involved.
