ABOUT

Mad World is a climate awareness film created to explore how AI driven filmmaking can enable a fundamentally new form of cinematic storytelling.

The idea was to transform climate science into an emotional visual experience. Climate change is most often communicated through reports, projections and statistics that can feel abstract or distant. Mad World reframes this information by visualising a 1.3 metre sea level rise across recognisable global cities and everyday environments, allowing audiences to experience the consequences of climate inaction rather than simply read about them.

To ensure the work remained grounded in credible science, the creative team worked closely with the United Nations throughout development. Environmental projections and sea level modelling were reviewed against publicly available climate research to ensure the film’s scenarios remained factually aligned with current climate science. This collaboration ensured the storytelling remained emotionally powerful while still reflecting real world environmental projections.

To realise the concept at a truly global scale, the film was produced using a fully AI generated filmmaking pipeline. Every image, environment and moving frame in Mad World is one hundred percent AI generated. There is no live action footage, no traditional photography and no physical production. Every pixel on screen was created through artificial intelligence under human creative direction.

The creative process began with prompt development informed by climate science and environmental projections. These prompts guided generative image models to produce thousands of photorealistic interpretations of cities experiencing rising sea levels. AI functioned as a creative exploration engine, allowing the team to rapidly test locations, compositions, lighting conditions and environmental states at a scale impossible through conventional production.

Selected visual directions were then evolved into cinematic motion using emerging AI video generation systems. Camera movement, atmospheric behaviour and environmental dynamics were iterated through multiple generations, allowing scenes to develop with a level of control similar to directing a virtual production stage.

Human creative direction remained central throughout the process. Creatives curated outputs, refined visual language and shaped emotional tone through repeated iteration. AI generated imagery was treated as raw cinematic material and assembled using traditional filmmaking disciplines including editing, pacing and sound design to build a cohesive narrative arc.

This AI driven workflow fundamentally changed the creative process. Instead of committing to fixed locations or physical production constraints, entire worlds could be designed, tested and refined in real time. Cities could be submerged, weather systems adjusted and visual metaphors evolved without the need for large crews, travel or physical infrastructure.

Mad World demonstrates a new model for filmmaking where artificial intelligence expands creative possibility rather than replacing craft. Every pixel in the film is AI generated, yet every creative decision is human led.

The result is a cinematic climate narrative that could only exist through AI filmmaking, showing how emerging technology can enable filmmakers to visualise complex global issues with unprecedented scale, speed and creative freedom.
