ABOUT

Background: Procter & Gamble (P&G), in collaboration with OutRight International and the Looking Out Foundation, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to support and empower women, particularly within the LGBTQ+ refugee community in Mexico. This initiative is part of a broader commitment to enhancing economic opportunities and fostering social resilience for women in vulnerable situations. In 2024, P&G and its partners focused on Tapachula, Chiapas, a key location for many refugees fleeing violence and persecution.

The Project The program, which includes the "Las 30" initiative, was designed to provide financial inclusion, job placement services, and mental health support to women refugees who are part of Casa Frida's community. To bring these stories to life, P&G and Outright International traveled to Tapachula to document the personal journeys of the women involved in the program.

The Journey In just one day, the team shot an emotionally charged video case that captured the stories of these women. Each woman shared the journey—the reasons for fleeing their home country, the challenges faced during migration, and the difficulties of starting anew in a foreign land. Many of these women had escaped gender-based violence and persecution due to their sexual orientation or gender identity, making their stories particularly poignant and powerful.

The Interviews Through in-depth interviews, they revealed their struggles and triumphs. They spoke candidly about the trauma they endured, the fears they still carry, and the hopes they hold for their future. The interviews also highlighted how the support from Casa Frida, P&G’s, and Outright International initiative is helping them rebuild their lives. This program has provided these women with physical safety and the necessary tools and resources to achieve economic independence and emotional healing.
