ABOUT

My diploma project connects the passion for travel, illustration and documenting memories. Theoretical work describes the history of documenting memories from the beginnings of photography to the era of social media, raises the problem of documenting memories in the 21st century and compares social media with the tradition of making albums with photos. The design part is a creative city guide. The starting point was to list the elements common to most cities. On its basis, a book was created consisting of exercises to be made from the beginning of the trip planning, through on-site activities and tasks to be done after returning home, thus combining the features of the planner, guide and diary. To increase the universality of the project, the book does not include typography, and the instruction explaining the specific exercises is a part of the Instagram profile. The illustrations have been hand-drawn especially for this publication and processed in Adobe Illustrator. Their character is to encourage people to fill in, and the form of tasks leaves the user with a multitude of interpretations. Most of this type of creative publishing is black and white, in the form of a colouring book. In contrast to this trend, a vivid, rainbow colouring consisting of eight colours, four warm and four cold shades was selected. Colour in the form of an application in the background or as a “shadow” of the illustration is intended to catch the attention of the user and draw his attention to the elements to be completed on a given page. The project is dedicated to particular to people who prefer lonely travel. The A5 format fits easily in any backpack or bag, so you can always have it with you to fill the pages.
