ABOUT

Every year, Corruption Watch (CW), the local chapter of the global anti-corruption movement, Transparency International, publishes an annual report to share with their funders and the public how they are making an impact in the fight against corruption in South Africa. Each report updates CW campaigns, advocacy work, and research findings and shares stories and experiences of ordinary people exposing the corrupt.

In 2022, Agent Orange Design partnered with the NPO to create the 2021 annual report, titled 10 Years Pushing for Change - Journey with 36,200+ whistle-blowers. We channelled our energy into designing a publication that commemorates the organisation's 10-year anniversary by highlighting the role of the whistle-blowers in their fight against corruption. We used thought-provoking conceptual visuals that provide readers with an immersive adventure. These graphics make the experience of page browsing enjoyable and compelling.

The crux of the project lies within the infographic development. Highlighting the corruption issues South Africa faces and the success stories of the non-governmental organisation were key considerations in creating a design that attracts a wide range of audiences, featuring the whistle-blowers as the crucial change-makers. Expressing this quantifiable information in a clear and impactful way makes the document both visually engaging for the reader and ensures this content is given prominence.

Using bright colours to identify each report section helps readers navigate the content following a clear path. It makes it easy for them to skim and find topics of personal interest. We were cautious with the statistics structure and used bold colours to immediately draw the reader’s attention. The annual report looks appealing and approachable at first glance. We used high contrast between the text and background for ease of reading.

We made the text large enough for easy reading and chose Serif fonts that are highly readable for the main text, headings, subheadings, and labels. The primary and secondary fonts contrast well with each other. We used boldface type to highlight important words and phrases - But sparingly because large blocks of text in bold are hard to read.

Feedback from this Corruption Watch annual report edition has been overwhelmingly positive from the client, their stakeholders, other chapters within the Transparency International network, and the media. We are grateful and proud to maintain our ongoing partnership with the organisation.

We delivered essential information about the organisation’s financials, performance and strategic direction, speaking directly to CW's internal and external audiences and conveying core messages. Let's identify the perfect annual report design solution for you!
