Around The Retouching World in 80 layers*⁠

Not that we’re counting our layer stacks, this project was so much more.⁠
⁠
After having a presentation with the lovely team at A+E, we were asked to give our advice, pre production, on this project early in their pipeline. Always something we recommend to our clients.⁠
⁠
Luckily, we love talking about how to make pictures and we soon collaborated on how to best grab the imagery to construct the hero elements.⁠
⁠
In order to be sure we had everything covered, we were asked to be on set for the shoot day to guide any questions that popped up. ⁠
⁠
It transpires that the things we thought would be the big questions (amalgamating the CG, perspective or prop placements) weren’t as pressing as how to retouch out a big ol’ tash that Al Murray had due to being in a stage show at the time of the shoot. ⁠

Not to worry, Photoshop is as sharp as any razor if you know what you’re doing!⁠
⁠
The vast majority of the image created a literal CG world with recognisable landmarks that are visited in the show with the hero being Sad Barry The Lion. Our CG Artist, Simon, did an epic job of balancing a feeling of reality and illustration that this hyperreal scene needed. ⁠
