Concept
Pepsi’s Refresh The Game set out to unite football legends and rising stars for a new era—requiring a soundtrack that could capture both legacy and momentum. The brief demanded a track that felt iconic yet original, with an edge that would energise the campaign and connect with a global audience.
Execution
Instead of simply licensing a classic, we re-recorded and completely reimagined Misirlou from the ground up. The creative approach was to retain the instantly recognisable guitar riff, but to build a new, modern energy through fresh live instrumentation and, crucially, the addition of original vocals—something never present in previous versions. Every detail, from guitar tones to dynamic percussion and layered vocal performances, was crafted to heighten the film’s storytelling and drive each transition. The result was a track that felt at once familiar and boldly new, tailored tightly to the film’s pace, edits, and attitude.
Results
The campaign launched across TV, digital and social channels globally, delivering standout engagement for Pepsi and strong recognition for the music’s role in elevating the campaign. Audiences and creative teams alike called out the new version’s impact—especially the addition of vocals, which gave the film a fresh, contemporary voice and momentum. The re-recorded track became a central creative asset, helping the campaign cut through in a crowded market and reaffirming Pepsi’s position at the heart of football culture.
