This project was focusing on use of colour within knitted textiles. I chose to investigate the colours found within the erosion and decay of metal. My initial inspiration was to look into rust found in old warehouses and metal objects, this gave me my initial colour palette. I started by trying to recreate the shapes and elements found within my research, my sketchbook work was developed using coloured ink and unconventional painting tools. I tried to replicate the scratched effect and also capture the fluidity of the dripping rust. After my initial colour work, i progressed to developing my knitted samples using appropriate techniques to replicate the patterns found within my sketchbook. I used a variety of techniques, including; plating, mock intarsia and creating my own marl yarn. This resulted in an interesting collection of fabrics with vibrant colour pops!
