ABOUT

My aim has been to create a collection of exciting and innovative machine knitted fabrics for the high end fashion market, exploring broken pattern and distortion using good quality yarns and natural fibres.
The leading theme throughout is based around broken pattern; looking at the over exposure of light through shattered glass and also influenced by the glitch art movement. This theme runs from the initial digital artwork and photography, through to the structures and techniques used in the fabrics. I have also taken inspiration from previous projects and explored the idea of printing onto plain knits and then unravelling and re-knitting them to create an unpredictable glitch effect.
Targeting the luxury end of the lounge wear market, and focusing on the notion of unisex wear, my designs are bold, fresh and eclectic, aiming to reinvent retro. I have used good quality natural fibres such as lambswool, cashmere and cash/cotton blends, to achieve a luxurious feel and handle suitable for a lounge wear collection. I have been inspired by designers and brands such as; Peter Pilotto, Meadham Kirchhoff, Sibling and Rebel Yuth, but added in the gender neutral element to appeal to both men and women.
The three main avenues of knitting I have explored to achieve my fabrics are; Intarsia, Jacquard and plating, in order to create bold, colourful, quirky designs, resulting in a unique and exciting collection of fabrics.

For this project I was nominated for The Worshipful Company of Dyers prize, I was shortlisted in the final 6 students but unfortunately didn't win. I was however complimented on my use of colour and innovation .
