ABOUT

The background: They earn a living. Support their families. Look after the younger children. There are many reasons why 8 million children in India never see a classroom or why 172 million never complete school.

The idea: We decided that if they couldn't go to school, we would take the school to them.

The execution: Neglected, graffiti strewn and dilapidated walls in slums across Mumbai were painted
to make shiny, new blackboards. Volunteers became teachers as children took to these ‘schools’ with unrestrained enthusiasm.

The results: The children started learning not just from the teachers but also from each other. Some even started teaching their parents, siblings or the elderly. When we transformed 60 walls into blackboards we
also transformed the lives of over 400 children.
