Shazam approached us to help them take their product from a music utility to a destination across multiple platforms. They were looking for insight, product vision, brand and strategy, how could they streamline the experience and also create a platform that can scale at a modular level to allow new features and partnerships to grow naturally.

"Before the vision we spent time working closely with the in-house development team at Shazam to understand and take their existing product currently in market and improving the experience both at a structural level and at visual. We took their product from a three star product to a five star product in the app store, which set solid foundations for the future of the product and our working relationship.

We then wanted to focus on the core of the product, the listening screen, the hero moment of the experience. That 26 year old moment of magic that still captivates users old and new. We developed a new brand language for the listening screen (where the audio fingerprint of the music is matched) and created an experience that was adaptive to user behaviour and learnt what genres they were frequently discovering, we created a personality and a living brand at the heart of the product.

The other key aspect of the approach for us was not to lose sight of what the whole product experience was built for. Music. How could users discover, share and capture music they were the most passionate about. We made the end to end experience of discovering to managing your music seamless and rich by creating a destination screen that gave users the possibility to push their Shazam result to their favoured streaming service, purchase content, read bios and even purchase merchandise from the artist.

The vision for the future of Shazam was unveiled at CES with overwhelmingly positive feedback, it then did the rounds at MWC (Mobile World Conference) and after the unveil we went into design support with the client to manage the design of the product and begin releasing candidates to a small portion of the existing user base. The product is still evolving to this day based on our vision work.
