ABOUT

In 2009, 100+ Club members were given the opportunity to be interviewed about their lives, memories, opinions and stories. Over 20 members accepted and the resulting manuscript is an interesting, entertaining and informative century of Australian and world history as seen through the eyes of members of the 100+ Club.

The book is titled ‘The 100+ Club: Reminiscing’ and is arranged in chapters beginning with chronological life events such as childhood, education, employment & love. The book then chronicles the changes in history such as war, technology, communication and medicine. Each chapter has an informative introductory paragraph and consists of sub chapters, sorting the information into more detailed sections. Participating centenarians were interviewed and shared their stories and opinions honestly. The recollections provided by the centenarians are presented as quotes (some short, some long).

The words are accompanied by photos from the period. Many are personal photos from the member's private collections. Highlights include photos of one of the first ANZAC Day parades in Brisbane and a photo of a current centenarian’s husband aged just 16 months. Photos have also been sourced from various websites and libraries, all with appropriate permissions. The photos provide a wonderful visual history of the early years of the 20th century.

The book has been written by 100+ Club co-ordinator, Samantha Mawdsley using quotes garnered from her interviews with 100+ Club members. All profits from sales of ‘The 100+ Club: Reminiscing’ will be going towards maintaining the excellent work that the 100+ Club does for the centenarian community because the club is a completely unfunded charity.
