ABOUT

RE-ROOTED NATURE is a design proposal that utilises Biophilic and WELL house constructs to convert a disused metal agricultural building into a healthy, energy efficient home with optimised air quality. By employing these standards, and using natural materials and finishes, the toxic build process of using modern building materials that leach toxins and VOCs (volatile organic compounds), due to their high chemical content, can be avoided. The design retains the building’s agricultural aesthetic. A green roof enhances biodiversity, incorporates grey water solutions, and improves thermal efficiency. An air-source heat pump and photo voltaic panels generate electricity for the home. Hemp block and clay plasters provide thermal and acoustic solutions, allowing the building to breathe.
