ABOUT

The brief for this project was to promote and display my self initiated Final Major project. I was to make a space that reflected and encapsulated the themes of my RISOgraphed 3 colour graphic novel " An Epic Tale of Doom".

It was my intention to create an interactive experience that gave the audience a chance to experience a piece of the world I was trying to create in the novel.

To do this I needed to replicate a scene or scenes from the story and try to come up with a way to make it engaging and striking enough for people to want to walk around it and not just ignore its existence.

So I set about recreating one of the most prominent background images from the story. The pyramid. This was representative of the connotations of underground politics and conspiracies that heavily influenced the story.

It was my intention to make the display and obstacle, struggle for the audience both to understand to and manoeuvre around, but only to a certain extent. I wanted to encapsulate the feelings of the main character.

Those feelings of entrapment and confusion, and that drive her to solve the mystery. I hoped that the audience would see the main mountain as an obstacle, obscuring their view and causing them to each have a unique perspective of the story from a far.

The graphic novel was disassembled and placed panel by panel on the wall behind, creating and interesting 3 colour pattern that popped out of the white background.

The Audience responded well to the obstacle and each had a different experience, as intended.

Some would read from a distance, not wanting to get too close. others would lean on the pyramid structure to get a close look, really interacting with the artwork itself. Mostly people would follow one an other behind the pyramid structure, letting themselves mirror the journey of my character.

This mixture of responses mirrored the way different groups respond to politics, you have those that do not want to be involved and then you've got the rebels who go against the grain. But ultimately people will follow what they are told in large groups, much like my main character.

I was so pleased to see this response to my work, and people were really positive with their feedback.
