ABOUT

This is my personal university project—a metaphorical representation of the 7 July 1962 massacre at Yangon (formerly Rangoon) University. On that day, many students were brutally killed by the military for standing up against oppression.
The စိန်ပန်း (Poinciana Regina) trees, planted around the university campus, inspired this piece. Their bright red flowers symbolise the blood of the fallen students—bold, beautiful, and deeply tragic.
At the heart of the project is the date 7.7.62—a haunting reminder. These numbers were written in blood by Ko Kyaw Win, a student from Mandalay Hostel, moments before he died after being shot by the military. His final act was an unforgettable message—“Never Forget.”
This project is not just about history. It’s about memory, resistance, and the power of metaphor when words are too dangerous to speak. At the time, direct expression was impossible—so people turned to symbols, poems, and silence to express the pain and fear.
Even today, the people of Myanmar continue to live under military rule. This work is my way of remembering, honouring, and speaking for those who couldn’t.
