Most interpretive signage is designed to be read.
This project was designed to be experienced.
Created as a series of tactile sculptures integrated throughout the landscape, the installation transforms traditional interpretation into an immersive sensory journey. Each piece celebrates a different aspect of the natural environment through form, texture, materiality and touch, inviting visitors to engage with nature in a more meaningful way.
The sculptures were conceived as both public art and interpretive devices. Inspired by natural systems, habitats, growth patterns and environmental phenomena, each artwork encourages curiosity while reinforcing the unique identity of the place.
Importantly, the experience was designed to be inclusive. Every sculpture incorporates tactile surfaces, raised details and accessible information, allowing visitors who are blind or vision impaired to physically explore and understand the stories being told. Rather than relying solely on visual communication, the works invite people to use their hands to discover texture, shape, scale and meaning.
The result is a placemaking experience that appeals to all ages and abilities. Visitors stop, interact, photograph, learn and connect. The sculptures become landmarks within the landscape, enriching the journey through the site while creating moments of discovery and reflection.
By combining public art, interpretation and universal accessibility, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can deepen people's connection to place and ensure that the stories of nature are accessible to everyone.
