Autumn is Orange. Although I have a touch of Synesthesia as do so many artist, linking the colour orange to the autumn season with so many visual clues - is a given. Everything seems to be orange from sunrise to set and all those leaves.
I used hard crayons with strong pigment for my response to the fallen multi-coloured leaf litter under the trees either side of my home.
These crayons are really for decorative craft surfaces but I’ve found their rather blunt and difficult to use nature helped stop me from getting bogged down in detail. I just wanted colour, straight forward colour.
Selecting some beautiful long leaves from a neighbour's magnolia tree, I photographed them on my iPhone then chose four, then eighteen colours from the large range of Distress watercolour pencils.
The results were successful, a sweet pleasure in the close looking and my determination to get the colour as close as possible.
