About me

Lucy went freelance after an eight year career at the BBC, having reached the position of Senior Accessibility Specialist, Future Media and Technology.
However, it was at the BBC that Lucy became particularly passionate about user centred design, usability, accessibility and user research while working as a web producer for BBC websites including Events, Search, Radio 2, Be On a Show and EastEnders.

In 2006 she became the accessibility specialist for BBC Online and Mobile; responsible for ensuring the accessibility and usability of the BBC's websites, interactive TV and mobile services. During four years in this role, Lucy worked across the BBC Future Media and Technology division encouraging web teams to engage with users and fully integrate accessibility into product research, design, development and Agile project management processes.
This user-centred approach resulted in a high-level of accessibility being achieved across flagship sites including BBC iPlayer, Food, Weather, Merlin, Radio 2 online, CBBC,CBeebies, the customisable BBC homepage, the Mobile homepage, Mobile News and the BBC's international homepageBBC.com.
Particular achievements during her time at the BBC include co-writing the BBC's Accessibility Standards and Guidelines, chairing the BBC's accessibility working group, leading the redesign of the BBC's accessibility web site, My Web My Way, writing, directing and producing the pan-BBC e-learning course, and shaping the accessibility policy for BBC iPlayer, which went onto win a BIMA Award for Usability & Accessibility 2009.
Lucy takes a refreshing approach to accessibility by cutting through legislation and standards to provide achievable, creative and inclusive user experience solutions.
Since going it alone, Lucy has been accepted onto the steering group for Fix the Web, and as a trainer for Econsultancy. Her current clients include Channel 4, LoveFilm, BBC and Medical Device Usability Ltd
