ABOUT
The aim of the project was to produce an engaging modern magazine about London’s alternative art and culture scene.
The task was to create a platform to connect upcoming artists, musicians, and companies that are doing something a little out of the ordinary with the audiences who are looking for something unique in arts.
Magazine focused on events across a broad spectrum so that it is accessible for people from all backgrounds and the interviewees are also reachable by the public.
As the magazine is about art, I suggested that photographs should be one of the main features of it. Good colourful photos make the content more engaging, easy to read and attract readers.
Because it was a magazine about art, I suggested that design should be minimalistic and clean so as to draw attention to artworks. I wanted a publication to be a frame for the artworks it is telling the world about. The idea was to make a gallery in print.
As the content is about alternative art, I decided that design should serve and reflect the content. Therefore I played with the layout. I avoided traditional magazine page layout of 3-4 columns. I also put photos in a random 'creative house' way, like paintings on the wall.
The cover of the magazine has two functions: attracting potential readers with the engaging design and tell them what the magazine is about. Therefore I suggested putting on it a photograph of the person wearing ripped jeans and Dr.Martens boots standing next to the brick wall with the Banksy’s artwork on it. These are symbols of alternative culture in London. They give a very clear idea about the content of the magazine.
The combination of red, yellow, black colours and a bold font of the title made a strong and engaging visualisation.
