Due to budget restrictions on photoshoots, the design department (meaning the art director and myself!) had to be inventive with front covers. Rather then going for a generic stock image, which was favoured by the international versions of the magazine at the time, we decided bespoke illustrations would be a better alternative. i think it really made us stand out amongst the other newsstand titles.
