About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

Having recently graduated with a BA in English Literature and Drama from De Montfort University, I am now looking to apply the knowledge I have acquired into the workplace.

During my studies I have excelled in improving my creative writing skills; creating new drama performances, where I was required to work in a team, focusing my skills in writing in a group. The literary side helped me understand the skills involved in adapting other works and making them more relevant to the time and audience. Both sides of the degree allowed me to improve and refine my analysing skills, therefore improving my ability to read and interpret various texts in a range of genres.

Throughout my English degree I studied a variety of books, some interested me, and others didn't. One such book that caught my attention was Virginia Woolf's Orlando. This book appealed to me in its exploration of sexuality and gender, developing the social views on women on a transgendered character, which I found to be progressive for the time it was written.

Having now finished university I have taken to freelance writing, where I have written a number of articles for various companies in a variety of different areas (from fashion to business). Despite only just starting I feel that it has improved my writing skills and allowed me to easily notice and correct mistakes and complete a task as quickly as possible.

I have also gotten involved in writing blog articles for a housing company, ranging in style, combining a professional style and humorous wit to create entertaining articles that grip the reader's interest.

I look forward to hearing from you in the near future regarding my application.

Yours faithfully,

Joseph Harris.
