Online commerce relies heavily on product images to convey the feel of an object. Often, to maintain coherence between the different goods offered on a particular site (amazon, target, e-bay, etc.) a vendor may choose to isolate the product on a white background. This can be more difficult than it looks, as the human eye is very good at picking out things that don't look quite real.
