After over one hundred amazing entries, the NSPCC section of the JJ Foundation Photography Competition for Young People is finally closed, with a stand-out image chosen. The judges were really impressed with the quality of the entries, many of them displaying the hallmarks of older more experienced professional photographers. The image you see above was taken on Ivinghoe beacon, in the Chiltern Hills (Buckinghamshire) by 18-year-old Jack Bronziet. Jack was working with his school friend Rachel Fardon, a talented dancer, to capture this stunning moment. The theme this year is Dreams and Aspirations. We love the way the camera has managed to capture so perfectly the sun in the middle of the Rachel’s jump, showing that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve something inspirational.

We caught up with Jack for the details:

WHAT APPEALED TO YOU ABOUT THE JJ FOUNDATION PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE?

The competition appealed to me as it seemed to genuinely appreciate and celebrate young photographers, as well as helping a very relevant and worthwhile cause.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN, IN YOUR OWN WORDS, HOW YOUR PHOTOGRAPH RELATES TO THE THEME OF ‘DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS’?

To me, this photograph relates to the theme due to the subject of the photograph. The dancer, Rachel, is a young performing artist hoping to make a career out of the performing arts. To me, this image relates to her jumping and taking her chance to aspire towards her dream, as she jumps and clasps the sun with her body.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT HAVING YOUR PHOTOGRAPH ON THE NSPCC CHRISTMAS CARD AND LEARNING THAT YOU HAD WON?

I feel ecstatic. I entered it not really thinking anything would come of it, and I’m just so happy that it has won.

DO YOU HAVE CAREER PLANS TO MOVE INTO PHOTOGRAPHY? WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?

Photography is definitely a possible career for me. I’m actually in the final year of my A-levels studying maths, physics, and chemistry and have just applied to university to read geology, coming also from my love of the outdoors.
