Did you know facts:
19% of all the foods we buy in the UK are disposed of. That equates to 7 million tonnes that could have been used. That is the equivalent of 70kg per person. 2.6million tonnes were simply not used within the use by date. This costs the average household £270.

Specific Problem: Food waste from expiration date:
Food being wasted because it was not used by the expiration date can be very irritating and problematic.

The problems with generic solutions:
The public find it difficult to remember when their foods expire by memory, especially with a family
and hectic schedules. Sticky notes are tedious to write and easy to ignore. Applications on phones need the user to type in their items and their expiration dates which too, can be inconvenient. This is why no products are truly successful in solving this topic.

NEW SOLUTION:
The convenient and appealing way is through stores to take action on this matter. This is why this product is implemented through the stores service.

Once at the check out and scanned, the information will be stored in a second receipt. In turn this aids their corporate social responsibility of leading in reducing food waste globally and supports the reduction of their consumers’ carbon footprint and loss of money. It also provides a platform for customer loyalty.

This product acts a physical reminder for the user. It will alert them when food is going to expire using a secondary receipt, categorised to the contents of the perishable data from their last shop.
