ABOUT
THE BRIEF:
A 'call for designers' campaign was launched by Cool as Leicester to help local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic during lockdown. This was to help them find a way to continue to earn money whilst local businesses were unable to open their physical shops. Cool as Leicester wanted to pair local designers with local businesses to work together to create a design that would be printed onto t-shirts and tote bags (printed on demand). Profits would go to the business and designers. I responded to the call for designers with my request for my chosen business to support and was accepted onto the campaign.
THE APPROACH:
I liaised with The Very Bazaar on some initial ideas that I had thought would be a suitable design for them, based upon a Tarot card theme. They loved the idea and couldn't wait to see the design ideas. I created eight rough sketches of initial concepts for them to choose from and then I would develop their chosen design into a final piece.
For the final artwork, I created the design by hand using pen and ink. I chose to keep the design in black and white. I then scanned the work to clean it up digitally and to also create a reverse colour-way so that the design could be printed in black or white.
Once the design was complete, Cool as Leicester applied these to their stock images to promote on their social channels to raise awareness of the campaign and to encourage sales of the merchandise.
THE RESULT:
Sales of The Very Bazaar tee proved highly successful from launch and was quickly in the top-seller category. Sales continued to do well and provided a much-welcomed income for the business during their lockdown closure period.
Stock will continue to be made available to purchase throughout the rest of the season into the winter of 2020.
