ABOUT
The challenge
The National Gallery’s Companion Guide introduces art lovers to one of the richest and most representative collections of Western European paintings in the world.
When The National Gallery embarked on an update of their Companion Guide, they approached us to translate the new sections, closely following the established editorial style. They also asked us to typeset the entire book into a newly redesigned layout.
The solution
We established a team of writers for each market - all with extensive experience in the field of art, and a true passion for the subject. With the help of test pieces, we identified those who had best captured the distinctive style and voice of the National Gallery.
Once the translations were complete, we moved on to typesetting. Uniquely, the books were set up as multilingual layers, each layer allowing a simple black plate change to print the entire language version of the guide. Every page of the book was cross-checked for references and accuracy.
The result
Our teams delivered the updated books on time and on budget. The new translated content chimed perfectly with the rest of the guide, all beautifully presented in a completely new design.
